The fastest road car

2017 is going to see a milestone broken in the world of fast road cars.

280 mph is on the horizon and could be easily be beaten, and by a car you can legally drive on the road. Today’s contenders for the title of the fastest road car read like a who’s who of the great and the good. But which of these cars currently holds the crown and which of these will be fighting to claim it back this year?

The grand old master of the road car

Of all the original supercars, the McLaren F1 still holds it is own in an ever-changing marketplace. It has style and it has class. The sleek body stylings have lasted the test of time, but it does not appear on this list simply for its looks. The speedo will hit 242 mph, which in a road car is often unheard of. The fact that this road car has been on the market since 1998 and still makes this list, shows both its enduring appeal and the fact that it is an engineering masterpiece. The fastest road car

The road car you dreamed about

The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport is the exact representation of thousands of fantasy drawings by boy racers. It encapsulates everything a driver would want in a super-fast road car. Not only are the visuals appealing, but the 269 mph top speed will keep everyone’s attention. There is nothing lacking in this road car and nothing more you could have asked the designers for.

The fastest road car

Having to test your road car at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, will tell you all you need to know about its top speed. When the Hennessey Venom GT was allowed to open up and release the 1,244bhp twin-turbocharged V8 engine, there was an expectant crowd. Topping out at almost exactly 270 mph, the Venom GT showed just how much it had changed from its Lotus Exige roots.
It is not just the top speed which singles out the Hennessey. The car also manages to hold the record for 0-300 km/h in only 13.63 seconds and similarly 0-200 mph in an astonishingly quick 14.51 seconds.

With three speed records in the bag and the probability of many more to follow, there can be absolutely no doubting that the world’s fastest road car is the Hennessey Venom GT. When the speedo needs to stretch around to 270 mph, you know it will take some serious engineering from the best competitors around to even trouble this car at the top of this particular leaderboard.
